The new and exiting
Shelby County Public
Library is on the way!
Agreement Reached to establish a
New Disability Awareness Section at
Shelby County Public Library-
57 W. Washington St.-Shelbyville
The Arc of Shelby County has finalized an agreement with our local public library to donate an initial amount of $1,500 in books and literature items about developmental and/or intellectual disabilities. These funds will be used to purchase at least 100 of the most current of relevant items over the next few weeks. The Arc also plans to make annual contributions of books and/or cash to the library to keep the section current and up-to-date with the newest materials on disabilities available.
With the help and input of several Indiana-based disability organizations, the staff of the library has selected books and materials in the following disability subjects;
24 books or items on the subject of autism or on the autism spectrum
3 books or items on the subject of attention deficit disorders
7 books or items on Asperger’s syndrome
5 books or items on cerebral palsey
16 items on Down’s syndrome
3 books or items on emotional and behavioral development
31 books or items on general development or other special needs
11 books or items on sensory processing disorders
The Arc and the library are pleased about this new collaboration and the establishing of the
“Disability Awareness” section at the library. You can contact the library 317-398-7121 or The Arc of Shelby County at
